Edith Mitchell Community Health Fair

Scrub Hub joined UCLA Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science at the first Dr. Edith Mitchell Community Health Fair. Volunteers provided oral screenings and fluoride varnish, performing oral hygiene instructions, and distributed free oral hygiene supplies. Other health services and information were provided for free at the health fair.

Who was Dr. Edith Mitchell?

She was a “woman before her time” and a “monumental contributor” to cancer and gastrointestinal research and treatment by colleagues. Dr. Mitchell was also a trailblazing champion for minority health care providers and medically underserved communities in the United States. She evaluated hundreds of new drugs and treatment procedures over her 50-year career in medicine, was a mentor to many, and, closest to her heart, dug deep to understand how disadvantaged patients could be better served.

Scrub Hub and UCLA’s Student National Dental Association are joining Unity Fest at Environmental Charter Middle School.

Volunteers will be distributing free oral hygiene supplies, performing free oral screenings, and performing OHI.

The event will be taking place at Environmental Charter Middle School – Gardena.

Join Scrub Hub and Greater Faith Baptist Church to assemble and distribute Thanksgiving meals and oral hygiene supplies to citizens of Watts, California and unhoused members of the community.

First, volunteers will be helping church members put together meal packages and afterwards will help distribute them.

Join us this Black History Month to give back to those in need!

We will be partnering with T’ena Health here in Los Angeles to provide healthcare services to the residents of Skid Row. We will be distributing oral hygiene supplies, educating the community on oral health, assembling care kits, and providing oral hygiene instructions.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2023

We will be at the NHS Compton Farmer’s Market giving oral hygiene presentations, distributing free oral hygiene supplies, answering oral health questions, and making referrals.

On Saturday, October 8th, we served the community members of Leimert park here in Los Angeles!

We donated supplies (300 toothbrushes, 100 toothpastes, and 150 floss containers), taught oral hygiene and answered dental related questions for our community. Check out our photo album by clicking the button below!
